The recruitment is for three types of GDS positions: Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak. BPMs are responsible for the day-to-day postal operations of a Branch Post Office, including India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services, marketing, and sometimes managing single-handed offices. ABPMs assist BPMs in postal operations, including stamp sales, mail delivery, and IPPB transactions, and may be required to perform BPM duties when needed. Dak Sevaks work in Departmental Offices such as Sub Post Offices, Head Post Offices, and Railway Mail Service offices, and their duties include mail handling, assisting Postmasters/Sub Postmasters, and other assigned tasks.

Applications must be submitted online through the official GDS online portal. The registration and online application window is open from 10th February 2025 to 3rd March 2025. There is a three-day edit/correction window from 6th March 2025 to 8th March 2025, during which applicants can modify details, except for mobile number and email ID. Applicants must register before submitting an online application. It is crucial to use a valid mobile number and email address, as all important communications will be sent to them.

The minimum age for applicants is 18 years, and the maximum age is 40 years, with relaxations for specific categories. Applicants must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognised board. They must have also studied the local language up to the 10th standard. Additionally, applicants should have basic computer knowledge, knowledge of cycling, and adequate means of livelihood. There is a special provision for candidates applying in Arunachal Pradesh, requiring knowledge of both English or Hindi and any of the local tribal languages.

GDS employees are paid through a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) which ranges from Rs.12,000 to Rs. 29,380 for BPMs and Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 24,470 for ABPMs/Dak Sevaks. They receive an annual increase of 3% on their TRCA, along with Dearness Allowance. It is important to note that GDS employees are not regular employees of the Department or the Central Government. Their service conditions are governed by the Department of Posts, Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020, and they are considered holders of Civil Posts outside the civil services. They must have other sources of income for adequate livelihood.

Candidates selected as BPMs are required to arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost before their engagement. The accommodation must meet the prescribed standards and needs to be in the post village where the Branch Post Office is functioning. ABPMs and Dak Sevaks are required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of their respective Post Offices.

Applicants are shortlisted based on a system-generated merit list, which is based on the marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination (10th standard), calculated to an accuracy of 4 decimals. The marks are converted using a multiplication factor of 9.5 where grades are mentioned. Shortlisted candidates will be informed via SMS and email to attend a document verification within 15 days. At the time of physical verification they must have original documents with them and two sets of self attested copies. These documents will include their marks sheet, identity proof, caste certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), EWS Certificate (if applicable), Transgender certificate (if applicable), Date of Birth Proof, medical certificate, and certificate of local tribal knowledge (if applicable for Arunachal Pradesh).

After the application submission deadline, there is a three-day edit/correction window. During this time, applicants can modify their submitted applications to correct any mistakes. This includes names, other data, marks, and choice filling. However, mobile numbers and email addresses cannot be changed. If the modifications involve a change in category that requires a fee payment, the applicant must pay the prescribed fee for the changes to be allowed. Previous applications are treated as null and void upon modification, and merit is then decided based on the modified application details.

The Department reserves the right to modify or cancel the notification. Applicants are advised to regularly check the official website/portal for updates, as the department is not responsible for non-receipt of emails or SMSs due to technical issues. The Department does not make phone calls; communications are only through the Engaged Authority, hence applicants must be aware of fraudulent phone calls and not disclose their personal details. Candidates are also advised that past experience will not be considered for selection and if a candidate has been previously removed, dismissed, or compulsory retired from any government service, they will be barred from applying against these vacancies. Candidates must submit a declaration to this effect.
